Debate: Agriculture in Mazovia in the context of the construction of the Central Communication Port

On 22nd of June in the commune of Baranów, took place a debate on "Agriculture in Mazovia in the context of the construction of the Central Communication Port". A huge area of land situated in the heart of Mazovia on high-quality, intensively used agricultural soils is going to be devoted to the construction of the Solidarity airport. It is estimated that 21 villages, 750 farms and 200 companies connected with agricultural production will cease to exist. It is estimated that over 3,200 people, many of them farmers, will have to be expropriated.

What does the future hold for farmers in rural Mazovia? Should 7400 hectares of agricultural land earmarked for concreting be lost forever for agricultural production? This is what our representatives discussed with the inhabitants of Teresin, Wiskitki and Baranów. The debate was organized thanks to Tadeusz Szymańczak, Agata Trzop – Szczypiorska - Head of Baranów Borough Council and Beata Fabisiak - President of Baranów Borough Council.

Participants included: Marek Sawicki, Kazimierz Plocka, Andrzej Śmietanko, Gabriela Janowski, Elżbieta Kozubek, Wiktor Szumski, Wiktor Szymulewicz, Barbara Czerniawska, Agnieszka Mędrek, Witold Konarski, Robert Pindor, Krzysztof Jaworucki, Wojciech Mojzesowicz, Karina Kozłowska.

"Land for farmers - not for an airport", "We will not give up the land where our family is from", "Say NO to CPK" are many messages. Farmers from the area of the planned investment have been feeling huge stress related to the vision of building an airport on their land for several years. The assembled guests were well aware of the current challenges for agriculture and the problems farmers already have to face. Many arguments were raised against the construction of a mega airport in the proposed location. Farmers will not walk away from their land. They will not abandon their farms. We want to help them in this uneven fight.
