More frequent weather alerts are being predicted

First-level alerts, predicting dangerous weather phenomena causing material damage, have already been announced in 14 voivodeships.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued an alert for the following voivodships: Pomorskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Dolnośląskie, Zachodniopomorskie, Lubuskie, Wielkopolskie, Łódzkie, Mazowieckie, Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie, Małopolskie, Śląskie and Opolskie. In these areas the temperature at ground level may drop to -5 degrees.

Such conditions mean gigantic losses for farmers. For example, spring frosts in 2017 costed farms 500 million PLN. Last years April's frosts in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship were responsible for losses of 70 to 95% of apple, cherry and cherry blossoms.

Climate change is causing increasingly frequent weather anomalies. This will result in more frequent unexpected extreme weather phenomena in the form of first-level alerts. This will result in increased uncertainty in agricultural production and billions in losses. Therefore we need to work out methods of adaptation to adjust production and ways of life to these changes. Unfortunately, the financial resources to implement these measures are still very small. We demand that politicians take responsibility for the challenges faced by agriculture.
